Justin is deeply committed to making Alexandria a better place to live, work and raise a family.

Our Community

Justin knows from his experience as a civic association leader and now as our Vice Mayor that the primary challenge of our next Mayor will be to protect our fiscal health. As your Mayor, he will work to ensure that Alexandria is a place where thriving commerce and effective government create an economic dynamic that makes the City a leader in the region’s recovery.

During his time on City Council, Justin has focused on ensuring that the City budget respects our wallets but reflects our values. Despite weathering a decade of constrained revenues, Justin has led the City to make new investments in our basic infrastructure, school capacity, early childhood education, economic development, affordable housing, public safety, broadband infrastructure and environmental sustainability.

Justin is a leader on the Council, working to build consensus with other colleagues in an effort to implement creative solutions to some of the most daunting budget challenges in decades. The fiscal environment is as challenging as ever today. Justin will use that leadership experience to advance responsible City budgets that preserve vital community services and protect taxpayers this year, and for years to come.

Our Families

Justin and his wife have two children in the Alexandria City Public Schools. He knows the children of our community are Alexandria’s lasting legacy. We must ensure every child arrives in kindergarten ready to learn and every student leaves T.C. Williams with the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st Century global economy. It is critical that we provide excellent education from preschool to high school to ensure every child has the opportunity at success.

Justin knows that ensuring the success of our children is not a task limited to the school day. On the City Council he has worked to improve after-school care, advance coordination between non-profits and our Schools, and modernize playgrounds, playing fields and recreation opportunities.

Our Environment

Justin brings a record of professional experience and legislative acumen to help Alexandrians navigate our growing region’s notorious traffic congestion. He is a strong proponent of intelligent planning, expanding public transportation, and encouraging other non-vehicular solutions to improve mobility and sustainable growth.

Justin has been a daily transit or bicycle commuter for over a decade. He recognizes the critical connection between land-use policy and transportation policy. He has been an unrelenting advocate for the type of development that complements the region’s existing transit infrastructure, not confounds it—whether it is reviving the dream of a Metrorail station at Potomac Yard, advancing the West End Transitway, seeking better integration of transit in a future redevelopment of Landmark Mall or working to expand the DASH bus system.

As a strong champion for the City’s Complete Streets efforts and the new Vision Zero campaign, Justin will ensure that Alexandria’s streets are safe for all users.
